Engine Change Application

The engine number is an engine's identification number which is stamped on the engine block according to the measurement and shape prescribed by the factory.

 

TYPE OF APPLICATION

  1. Category 1: Change to a new engine of the same make and capacity (cc), or to one with a capacity not exceeding 25% more of the original engine.
  2. Category 2: Change to a new engine of a different make/capacity that exceeds 25% of the original engine.
  3. Category 3: Changes that involve the change of type of fuel
  4. Category 4: Engine change on PROTON-made cars from CAMPRO engines to those made by Mitsubishi
  5. Category 5: Engine change that involves changes to the gearbox (from manual to auto)
  6. Category 6: Engine change on a commercial vehicle

Original engine is defined as the model of the engine installed on the car by the car producer.

  * engine change must be made between engines that are of the same variance with the PROTON. Engine-mounting-type modifications are prohibited.

CONDITIONS FOR APPLICATION

Conditions that must be met in an engine change:

  1. The change must be made according to the specified rules under the 1959 Motor Vehicle Rules (Construction and Use) L.N. 170/1959.
  2. The overall structural integrity of the vehicle must be sound, especially the chassis frame.
  3. No structural modification can be made on the front cross member, steering linkage and steering box.
  4. No modification can be made on the base engine mounting and no welding can be made on the engine mounting's additional structure
  5. PROTON models apart from the Perdana and Inspira models can only have their engines changed to those with a maximum capacity not exceeding 1836cc (1.8 liter). Changes to engines with the capacity of 1997 or 1998cc (2.0 liter) can only be made on PROTON Perdana and Proton Inspira.
  6. The vehicle's smoke emission opacity must not exceed 50%.
  7. The vehicle must pass the braking system efficiency test during the inspection.

DOCUMENTS TO BE ATTACHED

For Category 1
Owners are not required to make an application at the Automotive Engineering Department and can simply proceed with the inspection at PUSPAKOM, by producing these documents:

  1. The original copy of the vehicle registration card which has been signed by the owner
  2. The original copy of the engine purchase receipt
  3. The original copy of the K1 customs report
  4. A purchase confirmation letter (for engines purchased from other vehicles)


For Categories 2 to 6;
The vehicle owner can make a direct application at the Automotive Engineering Department of the local state JPJ for the approval letter by producing these documents:

  1.  Engine Change Notification Form(10.52 kB)
  2. A photocopy of the vehicle registration card which has been signed by the owner
  3. A photocopy of the engine purchase receipt
  4. A photocopy of the engine purchase receipt/li>
  5. A purchase confirmation letter (for engines purchased from other vehicles)

After the approval letter is issued, the owner must put the vehicle through an inspection at PUSPAKOM within 3 months of the letter's issuance date to obtain the B2 PUSPAKOM Inspection Report, by attaching the documents listed below:

  1. The approval letter from the Automotive Engineering Department of JPJ 
  2. The original copy of the vehicle registration card which has been signed by the owner 
  3. The original copy of the engine purchase receipt 
  4. The original copy of the K1 customs report 
  5. A purchase confirmation letter (for engines purchased from other vehicles) 
  6. A PG10 report (for engine change to one with a capacity that exceeds 30% of the original engine)

After the B2 PUSPAKOM Inspection Report is issued, the owner of the vehicle must produce the report along with the vehicle registration card to the state JPJ or any of the branches for the purpose of updating the registration card and recording the approval references.
